The MacColl tartan was produced by Wilson's of Bannockburn in 1797 under the name of 'Bruce'

DW Stewart recorded this pattern in 'Old and Rare Scottish Tartans' from a relic

the red which appears with the coming of the first frost

In 1822 Wilsons supplied this design to MacPherson and it was thereafter known as 'MacPherson'
